An actor and director, Joseph Pevney, born in 1911, made his stage debut at age twelve on vaudeville. In college at New York University, he also became interested in directing and by the 1930s, he was trying to balance both careers. In 1946 he made his film debut as an actor and started directing for Universal Studios in the early 1950s. His film, Away All Boats in 1956, was Universal's highest grossing film up to that time and directed the first film of the hit Tammy series, Tammy and the Bachelor, in 1957. In the 1960s, he moved to TV, directing many episodes of "Bonanza," "Star Trek" (including many popular episodes) and of course, "The Munsters." Other shows directed by him include "Fantasy Island," "Trapper John, M.D.," "The Rockford Files" and "Emergency!" In the 1980s, Pevney retired from television and films.
